Tony Geary and Genie Francis (Luke and Laura, The Wedding, General Hospital) (c) ABCFor 50 years, General Hospital has entertained and amazed its viewers with unforgettable romance, action and cutting-edge story lines.  To celebrate the pop icon’s golden anniversary, Katie Couric and 20/20 travel to the fictional town of Port Charles to experience first-hand the passion, intrigue and adventure that has made the daytime soap opera the longest running scripted drama currently on television.

Sit back and enjoy this hour-long special that features interviews with fan favorites including Tony Geary (Luke), Genie Francis (Laura), Maurice Benard (Sonny), Jack Wagner (Frisco), Rick Springfield (Noah), many other cast members, and Executive Producer Frank Valentini.

In this rare glimpse of the goings on that bring General Hospital to life every day, 20/20 goes behind-the-scenes and offers a visitor’s guide to Port Charles and its residents, showing how love in the afternoon has changed dramatically.
The special will also look at how General Hospital has been the launching pad for many actors including Demi Moore, John Stamos, Kristin Davis and Richard Simmons, as well as for chart-topping music hits; and how it has led the way in cultural stories like HIV, teen sex, working moms, birth control and breast cancer.
Anchored by Katie Couric, General Hospital – The Real Soap Dish, A Special Edition of 20/20, airs Saturday, April 6 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

It's a must see for every General Hospital fan!  General Hospital celebrates its 50th anniversary on April 1, 2013.

Soapers ~ a movement, a philosophy, a new book

When ABC announced the cancellation of long time fan favorite soap operas All My Children and One Life to Live in the spring of 2011, all havoc broke loose. Passionate fans took to the internet, boycotted ABC's advertisers, called for the firing of then ABC Daytime head, Brian Frons (who spearheaded the cancellations), picketed the studio, did anything and everything they possibly could to let the network know just how unhappy they were with the network's decision to dump their continuing stories for the more cost efficient lifestyle and talk shows that were to replace the soaps.

One such loyal fan, Flo DiBona, has chronicled the events of this tumultuous time in her new book, Soapers.
