"You know it can happen, but you think it won't!

Thrilled to be Nominated

When Emmy night rolls around, Martha Byrne (Lily Snyder) of As theWorld Turns will enter Radio City Music Hall along with her husband and two children and will be looking forward to the mystic, suspense, and drama that will unfold on that magical night for Daytime TV.

Byrne, an eight-time Emmy nominee and Emmy winner in 2001 for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Drama Series, will be reliving the dream again, as she is nominated this year in the same category. Will she be nervous? “Of Course!”

“I cannot tell you how I’m so looking forward to this special night. It will be fun,” Byrne said. “I am so thrilled to be nominated again in this category with ladies whom I admire and respect their work.  It’s such a joy.”

When the nominees were announced, Byrne was home with her husband and children watching TV and said that she was overjoyed to hear her name announced.

Byrne also shared that when the nominees were announced, her phone rang non stop with calls from her mom, family, and friends.

“My name was the first called, and we just looked at each other,” Byrne said. “I’m so honored, and I was so excited to hear my name. You know it can happen, but you think it won‘t.”

Byrne said that As the World Turns has done great work this past year. She submitted a clip of her work to the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences that included a clip of when Holden (Jon Hensley) told her that she can’t see her children anymore until she gets mental help, and her mother, Lucinda, (Elizabeth Hubbard) was also behind the plot.

Soapdom wants to know, why the character of Lily has enjoyed such longevity? “I think it’s luck, great writers, and producers, and the great cast that I have been blessed to work with over the years,” Byrne said. “I mean let’s face it. Lily has been married five times, but yet people can relate to her. People have faith in her. Lily is based on family values, and deep down she just wants love.”

Byrne also likes the fact that Lily is a multi-dimensional character. And that’s what makes her (Lily) interesting and viable. Also, that she gets to mingle and work with new cast members like Kin Shriner (Keith), giving her a chance to reinvent her character, and also the reward of acting with veteran performers.

“My only goal is to have fun and make the most of it,” Byrne said. “I think when you have fun, it just rubs off and also shows in your performance.”

Byrne added that on Emmy night if it’s win or loose, it’s the fact of being nominated and the support of the people that are behind her.

“If I win...that statue is for everyone,” Byrne said. “It’s a team effort of everyone supporting each other and standing behind each other. We all work together in putting together the best possible show.”

Byrne joking said that the Emmy would stand proudly in her home along side the other one, saying “It’s a small cabinet, and because of my two small children the statues are up high. It’s a small shelf, but you know I can always make room for another.”
